Irvin Jay Sarenas is a Senior Manager – Indirect Tax in Andersen’s Montreal office. He has over 20 years of experience in Canadian indirect/commodity tax, specializing in GST/HST, QST, PST, excise, fuel, and carbon taxes, and also has experience with U.S. state sales and use tax, excise tax, fuel tax, and property tax.

Irvin has a diversified background having worked at Deloitte, Canadian National Railway Company (CN), and Air Canada. Prior to joining Andersen, he was a Manager – Commodity Tax at Air Canada, where he provided advisory and training, implemented processes, reviewed contracts, managed audits, and supported strategic planning in commodity taxes and property taxes. At CN, he served as Senior Manager – Commodity Tax and led the group’s commodity tax processes, compliance, reporting, and strategic planning. He was also involved in litigation support and led representations on indirect taxes to federal and provincial authorities. At Deloitte, Irvin was a Manager – Indirect Taxes, providing recovery, review, and advisory services to clients across transportation, IT, wholesale/retail, services, manufacturing, and real estate industries.

 

Irvin holds a Bachelor of Commerce from Concordia University and completed the Short Graduate Program in Financial Performance at Université du Québec à Montréal (UQÀM). He has been a CPA in Quebec since 2006 and completed the CICA In-Depth Courses in GST/HST and PST.
