As of September 22, 2023, Service Canada no longer embosses dry seals on certified copies of passports\u2014a change that has led to numerous W-7 applications being rejected by the IRS. This is because the embossed seal was a critical requirement for the acceptance of Service Canada-certified passport copies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are applying for an ITIN, here is what you need to know about these changes and how we can assist you with a smooth certification process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>What Has Changed?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the past, certified passport copies with embossed dry seals from Service Canada were a convenient option to meet the IRS\u2019s ITIN application passport copy requirements. However, since Service Canada stopped embossing these seals, their certified copies no longer meet the IRS\u2019s standards. Consequently, ITIN applications relying on these documents are now being returned, causing delays and frustrations for applicants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\"><strong>Our Solution: Certifying Acceptance Agents (CAA)<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To prevent rejections and delays, we recommend avoiding Service Canada for certified copies.
