{"id":2125,"date":"2020-03-23T08:20:28","date_gmt":"2020-03-23T15:20:28","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/159.89.119.110\/?p=2125"},"modified":"2020-03-25T10:57:57","modified_gmt":"2020-03-25T17:57:57","slug":"u-s-federal-and-state-tax-filing-deadlines-under-covid-19","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/previous.ca.andersen.com\/fr\/blog\/u-s-federal-and-state-tax-filing-deadlines-under-covid-19\/","title":{"rendered":"U.S. Federal and State Tax Filing Deadlines Under COVID-19"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On March 20, 2020, U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin announced that the <strong>date for both filing and payment of&nbsp;certain U.S. federal income taxes has been<\/strong>&nbsp;<strong>deferred from April 15th to July 15th<\/strong>&nbsp;in response to COVID-19. This deferral applies to individuals and business taxpayers of U.S. federal income tax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Who Can Defer?&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Individual and business taxpayers may defer their U.S. federal tax payments until July 15th without being charged interest and penalties. Originally, it was only possible to defer up to US$1 million in tax for individuals and US$10 million for businesses, without any interest and penalties. Now the caps of US$1 million and US$10 million are lifted. You can defer unlimited tax, without interest and penalties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The U.S. Treasury\u2019s announcement was made after the\nearlier decision to extend only the U.S. tax payment deadline and not the\nfiling deadline. Tax professionals and lawmakers expressed concerns about the\nmismatch of the filing and payment deadlines.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>U.S. citizens and \u201cgreen card holders\u201d who reside\noutside the U.S., non-resident aliens of the U.S. and certain non-U.S.\ncorporations and partnerships would normally be required to file their US\nfederal income tax returns by June 15, 2020.
